gray three finger gloves where the split is between the middle and ring fingers
Started:
11 March 2023
Completed: 13 March 2023

For: me - this was tried on and altered as I made it.

Hook: I / 5.50mm
Yarn: Herrschners Worsted Wool Mill Ends (single ply, worsted weight, no label), used about 4oz of yarn

Notes:
  • North American terms, hdc = half double crochet, DC = double crochet.
  • I use a single chain at the start of each row for hdc to raise the height of the first stitch, and skip this throughout. Joining areas are less visible. (used ch 2 for dc)
  • increase means to put 2 stitches in the previous round's stitch.
  • decrease means to crochet two stitches together.
  • When making the fingers & thumb, you want to stop one row before it it goes all the way over the digit. The first connecting round will make up this space.
Thumb -

1. 7 hdc in magic ring
2. hdc around, increase in last stitch (8 hdc)
3. hdc around
4. repeat 2 (9 hdc)
5. hdc around
6. repeat 2 (10hdc)
7. hdc around, fasten off with tail.

Small fingers -
1. 10 hdc in magic ring
2. hdc around, increasing in 3 stitches (13hdc)
3. - 8. hdc around. Fasten off, leaving a tail to help sew up gaps during joining later.

Large fingers -

1. 10hdc in magic ring
2. increase every other stitch (15hdc)
3 - 9. hdc around - do not fasten off, continue with palm

Palm -
1. hdc in 8 stitches of the larger fingers; hdc in first stitch of small fingers. Hdc around the small fingers, then finish the final stitches of the larger. (28 hdc total). Use the tail from fastening off the small fingers to sew up any gap showing between (may wish to complete a couple more rows before sewing, is easier).

2. hdc around with 2 increases. I picked the outside edge to allow for the curve of my palm. (30 hdc)
3.- 6. hdc around
7. adds thumb. Put glove on hand. Mark the stitch on the inside edge of palm above thumb. Hdc around to this stitch, then make next stitch in 1st stitch of thumb. Hdc around thumb, then finish off palm. Use tail of thumb to sew closed any gap.
mitten in progress on hand with unattached thumb and stitch marker showing where to join
8.-9. hdc around
10. strategic decreases. Decreased twice on the back of wrist just before thumb join, once on palm side of thumb join (37 hdc).
mitten on hand showing a pinched zone where decreases were then used
11. decreased twice on the palm side of the thumb join (35 hdc)
12. Hdc 3 times, decrease, around. (28 hdc)
13. hdc around
14. hdc 5 times, decrease, around. (24 hdc)
15 - hdc around

16-17 DC around
18-19 DC around, adding 3 increases each round
completed mitten
Finished with a row of crab stitch in scrap yarn of the same type.
