In a few minutes the sun sets.

These last years, I've been tied to the day cycle. I can't be active outside of daylight hours.  I know when the sun rises and sets. It is like a pull.

If I wake before sunrise, I can browse the internet or some other quiet thing in bed, but not all the sections of my brain are on. It's a mistake to try to do anything that takes decision. Or anything with too much walking around the house.

And sometimes, I sundown. Which was even more confusing until I realized what it was.

So the progress of the year is more impactful on me than most.  Midwinter day.

So....we are in the process of finding a fixer upper to buy. That's what our $ stretches to and Mr is quite handy. However, I'm chronically ill and have been living in this house for years with a partner who resists getting rid of things, especially when there's space to stash it out of sight. House has a LOT of storage. He "fills his container."

Since I won't have crafting energy for a while due to this, I'm going to talk about the large scale decluttering project.

*started doing notes in red and strikethroughs for finished areas.

Basement - this is actually pretty good. Only remaining is Mr's stuff  to sort (fishing gear, computer workshop items). Parents helped me tidy the tools area and I've done the seasonal linens storage. Also Mr sold the exercise equipment and kayaks this week!

Kitchen -- finished the drawers (9 of them) and cabinets (12).  I'd started trying to spring clean it prior to all of this. Many items have been passed to younger cousins or donated.
  • pantry/back door closet - only part remaining. done 7 June!
    • spice organizer - esp as I no longer bake frequently, many of these need to be thrown out.
    • gardening tools - I keep a few things in here but they should move to the shed, so all similar items are together.
    • shoes - Mr has a hard time getting rid of busted out shoes. I should pull them all together from various parts of the house and see if they will be let go.
Bedroom - this is a lot of stuff to organize, it's not as bad as it sounds.
  • Clothes - I sorted a year ago but more stuff should go (also more Mr shoes).
  • Closet 2 - a little nook backing the pantry into the bedroom, I think it only has the folding chairs & dining room table leaf, needs checked.
  • Paperwork - bad habit of making a "to be filed" box and not filing it. :D
  • Crafts - some in main closet, some on shelf unit in the room. I've tidied some already.
    • items pulled back into bedroom from living room WIPs area need put away.
    • acrylic and kitchen cotton yarn is a mess - I didn't put things away.
    • fabric storage - get a different tote from basement. No reason to use two small totes, those could be used for other things! Made a specific rag bag as well. These never should have been smashed together.
  • Keepsakes - I've been slowly working on these, but what's unfinished is under the bed. I need to condense down.
Living & Dining Areas (kind of one large L shaped room).
  • Books - done, I've gotten rid of a bunch of stuff I haven't looked at in twenty years. More room for plant encyclopedias in future!
  • DVDs - I see some that area "mine" that I don't want, Mr may not let them go though.
  • My desk - has printer, mailing materials - ahem also some things to be filed.
  • Linens dresser & cedar chest - have some seasonal placemats etc stuffed in here that should combine with a couple tablecloths that are in the keepsakes area in the bedroom. Partially done 9 June - stuff piled on top of the dresser but the drawers & cedar chest are done.
  • Plants - I am behind on repotting into new pots I got for my birthday, this needs done so there aren't extra unused pots sitting around. Done -- finished potting the other day, tidied away the extra stuff in the tote and made sure labeled for moving. 14 June
Bathroom & Hallway - shouldn't be much to throw away.
  • Bathroom linen closet / medicine drawers - just needs tidied up, maybe some oldest towels should head to the rag bag.
  • Bathroom under counter cabinet - mostly cleaning supplies and extra shampoo.
  • Coat & broom closet - a few things that should go elsewhere, need a bin for vacuum attachments etc, and more of Mr's shoe collection.
Garden Shed - DONE - It just needed a general tidy and sweep. Threw out a few bits of trash (why did I put an empty potting soil bag in the shed? etc).

Holy crap, there's Mr's shoe collection in FIVE different places now that I'm looking.

Now that I've written it all out, while it is a lot it isn't as huge as it was in my head. Also I've finished way more than I realized!

Nearly done. Queue was less emotional than the projects. I've also noticed that while I will apparently queue nearly everything Julia Hart designs, I have only ever made a snowflake from her. I should make one of her larger designs this coming year. I have so many saved.

Finished
  • queue (today) - I even decided to weed a few out.
  • favorites (today)
  • hooks inventory - pasted it into a spreadsheet and edited a bit. I may add more detail later. (since last post)
  • projects
  • stash
  • library
To do still:

  • new moderator for my little group on Rav. I posted nearly a week ago and no replies of any kind.
  • WIPs projects - there's only a couple left there, but I need to start them blog entries here. Might do this tonight.

Future tidying (off Rav)
  • clean up stash spreadsheet. Thinking a tab per thread weight (Rav is bad at thread weights) and this is most of my stash.
  • go through IRL pattern library and add things to the queue! I've been bad about remembering what I already have.

Today I finished backing up my projects from Ravelry. That was a bittersweet process. As I went back in time I could see how much slower I work as a crafter as my health issues increased. Baby blankets I made. Wedding presents. I was a little surprised at how many views some of my projects have gotten. Huh.  Did cry a *little* at different points.

Finished (edit - finished library quicker than anticipated
  • projects
  • stash - downloaded as spreadsheet, deleted active stash on Rav so won't get inquiries about buying leftover yarn. At some point I'll need to decide what form this takes in the future. *Probably* a multitab spreadsheet by size, as the majority of my stash is thread.
  • library - had downloaded the spreadsheet version, had to download the Rav PDFs. Took less time than I realized. All saved in my google drive now.

To do still:
  • queue - if any are Rav-only downloads will need to decide.
  • favorites - I'd taken to saving borders and tips in here as well. sigh.
  • hooks inventory - still not sure what to do with it. Only real reason I do this is I have hooks with different sizing marks and I don't want to confuse which is which.
  • new moderator for my little group on Rav.  Asked if they wanted to move somewhere with me, only got a couple of yeses.
On the plus side:

Really loving Bublup to store all my "how to" and individual project links in organized folders. It's going to house my queue and favorites. It also "bubbles up" suggestions for my folders and I've already discovered some blogs I'd never heard of.

I've talked to more new people since leaving Ravelry and joined more communities than I have in years. I just don't want to lose old friends to gain new.

I have been going back and forth from "it's fine, you've lost websites/communities before" to being sad/angry. Over the years, as I became more ill, Ravelry filled a lot of needs. Couldn't do thread for months? No problem, I'd noted exactly where I left off on the project page. Can't go to physically look at what yarn you have? No problem, this is why you've taken the time and energy to input purchases into stash. Can't manage to do sites like Facebook anymore and you're homebound? Rav groups were there.

Someone mentioned dreamwidth in the accessibility group on Rav, and as I'd used livejournal once upon a time, decided this was a place to try out.

Things I should do to leave Ravelry:
  • Exported data is mostly in json - do I convert to csv or do something else? I almost wonder if a copy/paste into separate gdocs per project would be a better way to preserve projects.
  • Queue - are any specifically Ravelry downloads vs links?
  • Library - make sure you have a copy in gdrive
  • Favorites - most of the designers have their own websites at least.
  • Stash - delete it, I get inquiries about discontinued yarns and don't want to leave people hanging.

Things to do here/elsewhere:
  • Create template for project journal entries
  • Queue & favorites - maybe something like bublup?
  • Lovecrafts looks like it will be helpful with discovery
  • Use imgur for hosting pics (seems okay so far). May also be good for discovery (I'd never used this way)
I'd looked at airtable, and I'm just not really interested in replicating all Ravelry functions the way others seem to there.

Since 2008, I'd used Ravelry for logging my crafts projects, wish to make queue, and more. But I'm chronically ill, and the overhaul they've done this year means I'm no longer able to use it without being sick.

It's like wearing someone else's glasses while being motion sick. After I've been on even the "new classic" I have a headache and can't seem to focus my eyes properly.

I think I can replicate what I need for project logging on a blog, and just keep my stash on a spreadsheet. Still thinking though, and testing this one out.
